Here are some more details about this fish and no problem using the pics if you would like to. I also caught a couple fish on the 50, using mackeral. One was a little sucker about 50 pounds. The other was about 120 that was actually snagged in the belly. Seemed bigger as I couldn’t get his head turned around but no problem landing him.
Just back from a 13 day trip to the Clarion buffer zone on the Intrepid. My best fish of the trip and new personal best taped out at 161 according to the Captain. During one of those mid day lulls, I dropped down to 80 and couldn’t get bit. I then momentarily lost my mind and tied a Mustad demon 6/0 3x ringed circle hook on one of my jig sticks, a Seeker 80XH with a Tiburon SST 8 filled with 100 hollow, 60# pink Yozuri fluoro top shot. As soon as I threw it out, it was bit. I think the fish came out from under the boat. Anyway, sucker took about 3/4 of the spool on the first run against about 17 lbs. of drag. After I got it stopped, it was a little work, but I beat his butt and got him. The weather was coming up with big swells and wind that day but I used it to my advantage on this fish. When the boat rose, I palmed the spool to lift him and not give him have any more line. I’d then crank down on him when the boat fell. Seemed like the Tib worked great like this as it would shift to high gear on the down stroke and I would get a lot of line. The rest of the time, I could keep cranking in low gear ,still get line and keep maximum pressure on the fish. One of the crewman with me on this fish remarked that he was impressed with how the reel did on this fish. (Believe me, he was skeptical when he first joined me and saw the line disappearing off the reel on the first run!). Anyway, really impressed with the reel’s smooth drag and cranking power when needed. Thanks for making a great product!
